Low G on the 8 string C6th

Don't know how many have 'tuned' into this, but I have been tuning my 8th string 'A' down to a 'G'. You can get some nice rhythm things on the 8 stringers like this, anyone else doing this? If not, just give it a try & see what you think.

Isn't an 8 string C6th tuning (from high to low) E C A G E C A G? What else would you have on the 8th string other than a G? Or maybe you have a G on the 1st string. Is this the case?

I can do some travis pickin rhythm type stuff with (from high to low) E C A G E C A C

and the (from high to low) E C A G E C A# C
is even better

To answer Erv's question, on my C6th non pedal 8 string, I am so used to having a 'D' note on top as opposed to the more traditional 'G' note. So my tuning goes from the top down: D, E, C, A, G, E C, A/G
I sometimes tune the last note to A. But If your using a 'D' note on top, this works real nice.

on my 10 string non pedal from the top I have D, E, C, A, G, E, C, A, F, C. I tune the low F to E for fast tunes in the Key of E when I want to use the open strings. Please don't email me & tell me I am nuts, everyone already knows that I am!! Steel Nuts, that is!
