Sho~Bud "Christmas Tree" amp, Info wanted:

Post by J D Sauser »

I presently own two Sho~Bud "Christmas Tree" amps and like them quite a bit Image.

Not too long ago, there was an unrelated post with a picture of Buddy Emmons standing in the Sho~Bud store (?) in front of a stack of amps. One of these amps was a Sho~Bud Christmas Tree and it seemed to have a tan/beige/blond tolex covering. I like that color!
<U>Question:</U>
[*]Did I see right? Was that a standard option?
[*]Does anybody know what brand of covering this was? Can it be bought still today and where?
[*]Was the speaker grill of a brown color on tan/beige/blond amps or was it black like on black tolex amps?

Does anybody have the schematics to these amps?

Thanks...

BTW, I have the same topic running on the Bar Chatter Forum: http://www.b0b.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/008949.html

I've heard that term before but I don't really know what the 'christmas tree' variety is. What are it's distinguishing characteristics? I have a Sho-bud amp with 1-15" and a horn; it is a solid state amp. I have a schematic but it isn't exactly the same; some stages are very different.

Hi Bob. Thanks for your answer:
This is a "Christmas Tree":

It's called that way because the controls are lit in green, red and yellow from the back.

How cool!!

My cabinet looks the same but the controls are recessed in, on the top of the face of the amp; it's a 'blackface', with 'jazz bass' type of generic knobs. And my Sho-Bud logo is in the upper right corner. Do you know the technical specs of this amp? Tubes or solid state? The picture looks like 15" spke, possibly JBL.

I found this guy on the net for Sho-Bud schematics and repairs:

Well Bob, this one is solid state, two channels, one reverb only and the other reverb and vibrato, JBL D-130. Yours could be a so called "single channel" if its solid state too, doesn't have vibrato, and yes, you guessed it, it had only one channel.

I'd love for you to e-mail me a picture of yours. And if you want to sell it I might be interested too.

Thanks a bunch for the schematics link!

The single channel also has a middle control and the christmas tree model doesen't. IMHO the single channel is a better overall amp.

JD
I have schematics for both models and would be glad to fax you a copy of both.
