Anybody see an 8 string Weissenborn?

I know they never made them in the 20s/30s, but has anybody seen one? I am investigating having one custom made, but I'd love to know if anybody has ever heard of one of these.

Idon't know if Hermann EVER made an 8 string, I certainly have never seen or heard of one, you should ask Gruhn guitars that question,

Another resource would be Ben Elder, who is somewhat of an authority on Weissenborns, Konas, Knutsens etc. He wrote an article ('Born Again) on the Weissenborn for the January 1996 issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine (there was no mention of 8 strings made). He also is involved with the American Guitar Co. who build replicas.

Greg Leisz told me just yesterday that Bill Asher could/would build an 8 string.BTW,the Asher is a sort of 2 pickup semi-solid body Weissenborn lookin' ax made here in L.A. Very nice instrument and can sound somewhat "acoustic". Well under a grand also. -MJ-

Do you know if Asher built Ben Harper's
guitar that he's been playing lately?
