Across the Alley From the Alamo, feature on Billy Williamson of the Saddlemen and the Comets and more on Raising the Bar

Post by Ethan Shaw »

The new episode of Raising the Bar debuts this Friday on SteelRadio. It has a big feature on Billy Williamson, steel guitarist of the Saddlemen and Bill Haley and his Comets, one of the founding fathers of Rock and Roll. There are also songs by Lucas Hudgins & the first cousins, Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys with Lee Jeffriess on steel guitar, and many others. (There's even a little Chili Cold Blood!) Here's the "live in the studio" song. I hope y'all enjoy it! You can see the schedule and listen to the show anywhere in the world at steelradio.org. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIbyZgDTc-o

Billy Williamson playing with the Comets was one of the first times I ever heard the steel guitar, although I didn't know what I was listening to back then. I just thought the sound on the beginning of Crazy Man, Crazy was so cool! My mom gave the record to me when I was probably 5 or 6 years old, but I think it might have originally been my uncle's.
