Witchcraft
A year or more ago Rick Schmidt, Steve Cattermole and I were Skyping or Zooming talking steel, (what else right?!?) Anyhow they were encouraging me on my C6th journey and during that conversation I started trying to play the beginning of Witchcraft, to which they gently told me I was doing it wrong. Whats new??? Anyhow apparently I was starting the song one grip too low. So I rectified that and was determined that one day I would learn it, and hopefully this pretty close at least in spirit, (pun intended). Single note stuff is WAY harder for me than the chord’y stuff, and spur of the moment is NOT my forte, even though some was worked out and planned, a fair bit of it was off the cuff. Chords feel more like home to me while single notes are like trying to find the breadcrumbs to get me back home whatever that address may be. So I hope what I did here makes some musical sense, even the part where I got that one lower grip in that really isn’t supposed to be there, except of course in my world.

Sounds great Dale, love that song. Hearing you play it warms my heart. Sounds like you're really building a head of steam on C6. When I started playing C6 I was a little lost the first couple months ,but then things start to fall in place and you learn a song a day. Witchcraft was one of the tunes that really lit a fire under my rear. If Rick and I had anything to do with your meteoric rise to the top we are very happy. You stuck with it, and now it's paying off big time. I'm proud of you. Got to go, I'm busy learning " That's All" PS. loved your version of "Tenderly" really nice

Another great one Dale.
That's a great blend of single note picking and chords on that second round.
I like it when the adlib is not lost to just fitting the chords, but enhances the original melody if you understand my meaning.
Anyhow you nailed it Dale. Love your music.
Regards Jim

You're far too kind Steve ... C6th has been a real shot in the arm for me. Not only cause I'm doing stuff I've always wanted to do, i.e. Gospel and songs from the Great American Songbook, but maybe just the learning process itself when you wonder if you still canSteve Cattermole wrote:Sounds great Dale, love that song. Just went back and listened to your version of Witchcraft, then mine, and now I'm thinking the student has passed the teacher, Awesome
I listened to That's All, the title I didn't recognize, but I sure did recognize the song. Can't wait to hear you play it.
And I to disagree, this student ain't passing you ... I just relistened to your version and there's some stuff I'm gonna want to steal.
Thanks so much for the encouragement Jim, I really appreciate it. Adlib is an excruciating challenge for me. When I leave the chords for the single note stuff, its like I lose all reference to where I'm at. Something I really need to work at, and I'm glad what I tried here made some sense to you.Jim Mckay wrote:Another great one Dale.
