Thanks Jim for pointing me to Joe’s record. That’s one of his that I don’t yet have. He’d be the one to do Peaches justice.

Susan, I’d certainly agree that Zappa meets Wills is a fair description of the Cornell Hurd Band, though Cornell liked the Bonzo Dog Band more than the Mothers. I like them too, especially Gorilla and Keynsham.

Recently went to the Zappa plays Zappa concert here in Providence.
Dwezil leading a band of great musicians including guest appearances by Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio
An overwhelming (approx.3 hrs)collection of Zappa tunes from across the years.The rehearsal time necessary to get all that music down must have been outrageous.
If your a fan of Frank's I'd reccomend it.
The only thing I would have liked was more story telling and insght into the Zappa music process.

Back in the day, I loved Frank's humor. Now, I get the music, and realize what an incredible composer/arranger/THINKER the man was.
Like my man Bill Hatcher says, Frank WILL be remembered.

I remember causing great consternation as a kid in Lubbock when I played "Who Are the Brain Police" over the hifi in the band room. Me and my friend Hymie Smith could perform "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" (a capella) at the slightest provocation.

reviving an old thread here...

I've been diving into the immense Zappa catalog lately which includes revisiting one of my very favorite albums, We're Only In It For The Money.

it wasn't until I lowered the pitch on several songs that I realized the vocals are almost entirely Frank.

this won't be everyone's cup of meat but I tried to assemble the entire album in Frank's natural pitch where lead vocals are concerned, without changing tempos. I believe this version is entirely uncensored too, aside from the section in Harry You're A Beast that Frank censored himself. https://youtu.be/0KUBBNCNXEo

I personally enjoy the album even more this way. I love Frank's natural voice and I think some listeners might better appreciate just how great these songs are without the sped-up vocals.

Was kinda late to the party, I guess....not really a freak but we did run the 77 album T*B a lot back then. I felt Zappa was a very intelligent and seasoned musician, irreverent as he was, but once I got past the shock value of some of the lyrics, I could tell he was really, really good at the musical composition and probably could have been more widely received with milder musings. The music end of some of his classical stuff bordered on genius.

Frank's first born, Moon Unit has a book out "Earth to Moon" certainly an interesting read for any Zappa fan.
