Any Rutles fans out there?

Post by Roger Rettig »

Well, this isn't The Rutles but Neil Innes & Fatso (the true original Rutles) did a reunion tour back in 2008 for which I returned home to the UK.

I have no idea why it's taken nearly six years for the live CD to finally appear but, anyway, here it is. Many Rutles tunes regurgitated here with a smattering of assorted 'gems'. (My favourite? Billy Bremner's superb vocal on 'Reet Petite'!)

This tour was great fun for us all.

I just clicked the little arrow. It just plays a short sample.

Thanks, Scott, but it doesn't work for me. If I click on the arrow it just changes to a 'pause' icon but nothing happens.

I suppose my PC must have something blocked which prevents it from playing but it's beyond me to figure out.

Thanks for replying, though. I think they'll be sending me a couple of CDs in due course.

I love the Rutles movie, very funny. The songs really sound like they could have been Lennon/McCartney compositions, (perhaps written while slightly inebriated...)

There's a glimpse of us (Neil & Fatso) in the film - a still photo is shown of us in the appalling plaid band-jackets and we're posing around a scruffy little van!

Here it is. It was taken outside the BBC Television Centre in White City on the day we filmed the 'bit' with George Harrison.

That's a nice version of Harrison's Beware Of Darkness, my favourite GH composition.

Now I'm getting upset!!!

It seems that everyone can hear these clips but me!

Thanks, Ken - I enjoyed doing that one. I'll PM you with Billy's name for that song. :)

Was your steel the ZB, switched on the biggest coil winding Roger?

Not only is Billy Bremner a great rock & roll guitarist, he is a great singer as well. I first laid eyes on him in the King Pins, and he knocked me out with his guitar playing.

'Yes' for the George Harrison clip, Ken, but 'no' for the 2008 stuff. That's my Emmons LG111.

Roger, the files are MP3s, but it looks like the site relies heavily on Javascript. If that helps...

Thanks, Scott. I happened to go to the Amazon.co.uk site and there the links work just fine for me.

It's been a few years since I heard any of these tunes (the tour was 2008!) and from what I heard it seems well mixed. There are a couple of steel and guitar parts I wish I'd done again but I can live with it.

Thanks for listening; I'm told that the CD is already up to #3 on Amazon's 'comedy chart'!!!

Back in the hit parade after almost fifty years! :D
