Transtube vs Tubefex

Post by Darrell Alexander »

Hi everyone. I am considering purchasing either a transtube fex or a tubefex. I know this is not "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", but I thought I would pole the audience on this one and get your opinions on these two units. Your inputs would be appreciated.

Do a search as there has been several threads on this subject.

Basically the difference is the preamp. The TubeFex uses a 12AX7 tube preamp where the Transtube Fex uses transistors operating in a mode that emulates tubes. The Transtube Fex also has a headphone output. The other difference is the price, the TubeFex lists for $200 more.

If you're into tubes then go for the TubeFex, if not the Transtube Fex will serve very well. I've had a Transtube Fex for almost two years and am completely happy with the sound. I played both of them at a dealer before buying and couldn't really tell any difference so why pay $200 (list) more.
