Well I said I would get back with everyone on the Weber speaker talked about here; so here goes.
I did receive it and put it in and tried it out at couple of different gigs.
It did not pass my standards.
I found if brassy(harsh)sounding on the high end and I was able to make it flutter on the very lowest notes on the C6th tuning.
It made my Fender twin sound like a session 500 and I hate that peavey sound>ouch.
I did talk to Mr. Weber and he is very helpful and a very nice man. But he deals with mainly guitar players and wasn't aware and suprised with my findings. If someone wants this speaker; I will sell it to them cause it does have some good tones in it and the separation of tones are very good. It's just not the speaker for my twin.
My good friend Marty Muse just loaned me a JBL E-130 4ohm 15" to try out and I'm headin' to the gig now to give it a whirl. Thanks everybody for your knowledge and input in my search for "THE" speaker. I still wound like a D-130 if someone out there has one; I'll buy it in any shape cause I have a guy here that can re-cone with JBL kit and he's the MAN.
Or someone was metioning the K-120 8ohms; and I'll take two of them if you want to part with.
Thanks everybody>I'm still lookin'!!!

Hey Ricky,
Thanks for that "review". I've been kinda
wondering how ya made out with Ted's speaker.
How's your recone guy gonna get a JBL 4 ohm
kit, if you get ahold of blown D-130? They ain't being made anymore.

Hey Jay; my guy owns Austin Speakers and is highly sought after in this area for this type work. He says they are still in the book and you can order them. I think he also said(and I may be wrong in my understanding); but as long as it's JBL kit; a re-cone is a re-cone; wire is wire.
Does that make since?

Ricky, your friend might be able to order it, but the guy at JBL told me they just don't make the 4 Ohm kit anymore. If he can get it, let me know cause I've got a speaker that could use it also!........Brian
I agree with you that you don't play a Fender to get a Peavey sound. And vice-versa.

Just back from the gig. Boy I sure liked the heck out of that E-130 I played through tonight that Mary Muse loaned me. Man; that was the ultimate and I think I'm on to something.

Yeah, I've got those 4 Ohm E-130's in both
of my Webbs. Once in a while I'll run a
wire over from my old pre-CBS Twin Reverb
into one of 'em. They are great
speakers, but some guys do think they're
a bit too clear on the high end.
The 8 ohm one's sound pretty much the same
but you will loose a bit of power from
your amp. At least the tone will still be
there anyhow.

Ok everybody are you ready for this?
I found a great big music store in south texas called "Hermy's"(sp?) but the phone number is 210-348-7225 and you can't buy the brand new in the box JBL speaker for any cheaper. How does $195.00 sound for a JBL E-130 4ohm 15" speaker?
Make sure you tell them you want the 4ohm cause the book shows 8ohm but no prob getting the 4ohm.
If your putting either a 15" or 12" in one amp; make sure it's a 4ohm speaker. If your running two speakers from one amp; make sure each speaker is 8ohm.
I hope that helps and I am very very happy with this speaker; and ya'll owe me>for this connection>ha........ Image
Make sure you tell them Ricky Davis from "Mighty Fine Music" sent ya.

I am a little confused with those "E"'s:
I've seen some with a big Ceramic magnet (like on a Black Widow) and I've seen some that looked exactly like a "D" with what appeared to be an alnico magnet, but in black krinkle finish...

Oh thanks J D; now I'm confused> Image
My understanding is the E series never had alnico magnet because this is the version that came out after JBL stopped making the Alnico magnet back in late '70's because of price of materials to make it. But if you say you've seen an "E" with a alnico and not a "K" or a "D"; than I need to learn more now.
Somebody fill us in please.

Cool! Now, I got you confused.
Well, I've seen an E-130's in a Webb and it had that big ceramic magnet. I think I've also seen an E-130 which looked exactly like a D-130 but black and I also hear that some D-130s have been re-coned with "E"-cones...
I don't know, so I asked... and now you ask me... Image live ain't easy Image

Hey Ricky mon....I just saw your ad. The E-130 is what I've had in my Evans (you remember it) since new in '84. I'm going to Speaker Repair in Ft. Worth today or tomorrow to drop off a couple speakers for a friend. I'll see what Joe has over there....
